Our 2023 vehicle was Virginia Tech's third rendition of a four-wheel drive vehicle and our first vehicle to utilize the new Kohler CH440 engine. We took inspiration from the previous year's drive train set up, but almost every component saw a full re-design. Our main goal was to maintain what our previous vehicles had done well, while working around the larger size and higher weight of the new engine. The suspension saw major upgrades as well, with our first iteration of welded titanium suspension arms and modified continuous velocity joints. Pheonix proved to be one of our most performant vehicles ever, with significant improvements to drivetrain performance as well as maneuverability.
